Arnold Classic Preparation Early January

Monday, January 19, 2015

Since my last post we have all been given the events for the 2015 Arnold Strongman Classic.  All of the events are the same as last year so we have Log Press, Deadlift, Dumbbell Press, Timber/Frame Carry and a heavy Yoke Carry.  The only major change is that the Frame Carry this year will be done with straps and go up to 1100 lbs.   I was certainly excited to get the events for the Arnold but I would be lying if I said that I wasn't at least a little bit disappointed.

I have always thought that grip strength should be at least a small part in any major strongman competition so this change was very disappointing to me.  It rewards the guys that have a bad grip and to be honest isn't probably the safest event in the world considering we have to carry the frame up a ramp/incline.  It is however certainly a test of strength to be able to carry such a big weight up the ramp.  Historically speaking this has been done at the arnold before with straps and almost every man finished the course and it was a very small margin of time that separated the men so in order to do well at this event I will have to be fast.

The other very disappointing thing about the arnold this year is the fact that yet again the Manhood stone/Atlas Stone event will not be included.  I could go on and on about how lifting stones has been a great test of overall body strength.  In my opinion it is one of the most historical and best ways to test how strong a man truly is.  Even when I was first starting strongman and was only a fan of the Arnold Strongman Classic I remember all the guys lifting the new world record stone.  It was one of the events that I looked forward to watching the most all year.  I am just sad to see that it is not included yet again this year.

I am feeling pretty good about my prep overall even though I still have a lot of work to get done.  I will be posting more updates soon!
